While visiting the Seychelles National Botanical Gardens today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi got to know Jonathan, the oldest land mammal still alive. There, too, he planted a tree.
The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of India and the Seychelles establishing diplomatic ties. PM Modi was asked to attend the Seychelles’ National Day ceremony as a Guest of Honor, and he will also meet with the leadership of the Seychelles.
Meet Jonathan
Jonathan, a huge tortoise from the Seychelles, is thought to have been born in 1832, making him roughly 194 years old. According to Guinness World Records, Jonathan is the oldest land mammal still alive.
Jonathan has lived through generations and seen significant changes in the globe over the course of over two centuries.
Jonathan is in excellent health despite his advanced age because of the work of vets who have contributed to his wellbeing. Despite having a weak sense of smell and impaired vision owing to cataracts, Jonathan is still alive and well and continues to be one of Seychelles’ most popular tourists.
