Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet bilaterally on Friday, September 11, on the fringes of the BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi.
“We’re looking forward to the President and Prime Minister having another bilateral meeting during the visit,” Peskov told reporters via a video briefing from Moscow. It’s planned. As usual, they will start by discussing the bilateral agenda because it is set for Friday.
On September 12 and 13, the 18th BRICS Summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. On January 1st of this year, India assumed the BRICS leadership, serving as the group’s chair for the fourth time.
Along with other discussions on trade and the economy, Peskov stated that the sale of Su-57 aircraft to India is on the table. Peskov’s comments have not yet received an official response from India. He called the US proposal to impose 100% tariffs on nations purchasing Russian crude oil “illegal and unacceptable.”
Leaders of member nations, invited guests, and top officials will gather at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan during the two-day event.
Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates make up the 11-member core group. In 2025, Indonesia attained full membership.
Ten partner nations, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam, are also part of the larger BRICS framework. These nations are distinct from the full members and are partners.
The meeting will be hosted by PM Modi. Chinese President Xi Jinping is anticipated to attend, and Putin has confirmed his presence. If Xi travels to India, it will be his first visit since he met PM Modi informally at Mamallapuram in 2019.
President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia, President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia, and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand are among the other leaders anticipated at the summit. António Guterres, the secretary-general of the United Nations, is also anticipated to attend.
