Major Price Cuts in Petrol, Diesel, Commercial LPG, and Jet Fuel

As tensions between the US and Iran continue to ease, Indian consumers and businesses are receiving substantial relief through notable reductions in key fuel prices. On Wednesday, prices for commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), petrol, diesel, and aviation turbine fuel (ATF, or jet fuel) were lowered, marking a welcome reversal after months of elevated costs driven by global energy disruptions.

The adjustments follow a period of heightened uncertainty that began on February 28, when conflict in West Asia pushed international oil prices upward. Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy shipments, had previously affected supplies reaching India and contributed to domestic price increases across multiple fuel categories. Recent diplomatic progress, including discussions in Qatar and a signed memorandum of understanding, has helped stabilize flows and supported falling crude oil benchmarks. Brent crude was trading above $73 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate hovered near $70.

In one of the most significant changes, the price of commercial LPG cylinders widely used by hotels and restaurants dropped by ₹183.50 for a 19-kg unit. This marks the first reduction of the year. A standard 19-kg commercial cylinder now costs ₹2,930 in New Delhi. These rates are updated monthly based on the previous month’s average international benchmark prices. City-wise rates (per 19-kg cylinder) stand as follows: New Delhi ₹2,930; Chennai ₹3,106; Hyderabad ₹3,191; Kolkata ₹3,081.50; Mumbai ₹2,885.50; and Bengaluru ₹3,021. The previous month’s peak had seen prices climb as high as ₹3,113.

Private fuel retailer Nayara Energy implemented cuts at its network of over 7,000 outlets nationwide, reducing petrol prices by ₹5 per litre and diesel by ₹3 per litre. Pump prices continue to vary by state due to local taxes and duties such as VAT. Public sector retailers have not altered their rates. Nayara had earlier led increases during the height of the tensions in March.

City-wise examples for Nayara’s revised rates (per litre) include:

New Delhi: Petrol ₹102.12, Diesel ₹95.20

Chennai: Petrol ₹107.76, Diesel ₹99.55

Hyderabad: Petrol ₹115.69, Diesel ₹103.82

Kolkata: Petrol ₹113.51, Diesel ₹99.82

Mumbai: Petrol ₹111.21, Diesel ₹97.83

Bengaluru: Petrol ₹111.68, Diesel ₹99.56

Aviation turbine fuel also saw relief, with a ₹5 per litre reduction. In New Delhi, jet fuel now stands at ₹110 per litre. This represents the first cut since prices spiked sharply earlier in the crisis. Government intervention had previously moderated some of the steep rises for domestic airlines.

These coordinated reductions are expected to ease operational costs for transportation, hospitality, and aviation sectors. With signs of recovering tanker traffic through key routes and expectations of normalized supply, further stabilization in fuel costs may follow in the coming weeks.
