OSM Row : Parliament Panel Summons CBSE Chief, Education Secretary

New Delhi : The controversy surrounding the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 board examinations is set to come under intense parliamentary scrutiny. The move comes amid growing complaints over alleged technical glitches, discrepancies in evaluation and challenges faced by students during the post-result verification process, prompting lawmakers to seek answers from key education officials.

In a significant development, representatives of CBSE students are also expected to participate in the meeting, providing the panel with first-hand accounts of the difficulties encountered during the evaluation and result-related processes. The Committee has also called upon the Director General of the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), indicating that members may delve into the technological and cybersecurity dimensions of the controversy.

Headed by Congress MP Digvijaya Singh, the Standing Committee is also scheduled to discuss the implementation of the three-language formula for Classes 9 and 10, another issue that has generated debate among education stakeholders and state governments. The meeting is expected to assess whether the transition to technology-driven evaluation systems has been carried out effectively and whether adequate safeguards are in place to protect students’ interests.

The Standing Committee is chaired by Digvijaya Singh of the Congress Party, and in addition to the aforementioned agenda items, it will be discussing the issue of implementing the three-language formula in classes 9 and 10. This is yet another policy proposal that has caused immense controversy within the educational sector and amongst the state governments.
