‘No Need To Panic’: PM Modi Urges Calm Over West Asia Conflict, Announces Madurai International Airport Upgrade

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called on citizens to stay calm amid the escalating conflict in West Asia, assuring that the government is keeping a close watch on the situation and remains committed to protecting India’s interests as global energy supply chains face disruption.

Addressing the NDA convention in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, Modi acknowledged that the West Asia tensions have sent shockwaves through energy markets worldwide, but stressed that India’s priorities remain firmly in place.

“The conflict in West Asia has affected the whole world’s energy supply chain. In any situation, we have seen how our government always puts the interests of India above everything. We believe in the ideology of India First,” the Prime Minister said.

Modi also urged the public to exercise caution against rumours and misinformation circulating around the crisis. “There is no need to panic or pay attention to rumours. I would like to appeal to people, let us only spread correct, verified information,” he said.

Expressing firm confidence in the country’s resilience, the Prime Minister added, “I am confident that as a nation we will handle every situation successfully.”

Earlier in the day, Modi held a roadshow in Kochi, Ernakulam, which drew large crowds before he proceeded to Tamil Nadu for the convention.

In a significant announcement during his Tiruchirappalli address, the Prime Minister declared that Madurai Airport has been upgraded to international airport status, a move he said would strengthen regional connectivity and give a boost to tourism in southern Tamil Nadu.

“Madurai is home to one of the oldest airports in the state and serves as a key gateway to southern Tamil Nadu. By elevating it to international airport status, we are bringing the world to the doorstep of Madurai,” Modi said.
