Brishti Mukherjee, the daughter of Nihar Mukherjee, the cousin of former Bengal state minister Mamata Banerjee, committed suicide. She was twenty-eight.
Around nine in the morning on Tuesday, her body was discovered hanging on the first floor of her house in Kusumba village, in the Birbhum district of West Bengal.
Brishti Mukherjee was accused of using the primary teacher recruiting fraud to get a job. She had also filed for divorce from her husband.
Her family members reported that she was receiving treatment for depression that had been plaguing her for a few years.
The cause of her suicide is being looked into by the Rampurhat police.
For a post-mortem analysis, the body has been transported to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. An investigation is underway. The circumstances leading to the death will be established after the post-mortem and other procedural inquiries,” a police officer told news agency PTI.
