Nasrapur Minor Rape-Murder: Police Lathi-Charge Protesters Blocking Pune-Bengaluru Highway; CM Fadnavis Demands Capital Punishment

Pune: Police resorted to a mild lathi charge on Saturday to disperse protesters who had blocked the Pune-Bengaluru Highway in Pune district over the rape and murder of a minor girl in Nasrapur.

Demonstrators gathered on the highway and surrounded the police team that arrived to clear the blockade and restore traffic. The 65-year-old accused in the case has been sent to police custody till May 7 by the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court in Pune.

A four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered by the 65-year-old man in a village in Pune district, triggering widespread outrage. The incident came to light after the girl went missing and her relatives began searching for her. During the search, CCTV footage emerged showing the accused with the child.

The accused was arrested by Pune Police. According to police, he allegedly lured the child with food to a shed, where he sexually assaulted and killed her. Following the incident, hundreds of villagers gathered at a local police chowki and on the highway, demanding strict action.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandipsingh Gill reached the spot and assured the public that the case would be fast-tracked. He confirmed that the accused has been booked under POCSO and other relevant sections of the BNS. Investigation is ongoing.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, speaking to reporters in Mumbai on Saturday, said the state government would seek capital punishment against the accused and that the case would be heard in a fast-track court.

“The incident that occurred in Pune is highly condemnable and is tragic. A three or three-and-a-half-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and murdered by a 65-year-old man. The accused has been arrested. The people are angry following this incident. I assure you to take up the case in a fast-track court. I would like to request the High Court to give us a special public prosecutor, and we will demand capital punishment in the court,” Fadnavis said.
