India’s yearly defense production reached a record high of 1.78 lakh crore rupees in the Financial Year (FY) 2025–2026, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. According to his social media post, this milestone signifies an astounding 110 percent gain since FY 2020–21, when the total stood at over 84 thousand crore rupees, and an astonishing 15.6 percent growth over the previous fiscal year’s output of 1.54 lakh crore rupees. He went on to say that from 4,746 crore rupees in FY 2013–14, domestic defense output has virtually quadrupled.
The Defence Minister highlighted that the significant growth in India’s defence production over the past few years is the outcome of the coordinated efforts of the Department of Defence Production alongside all other stakeholders. He emphasized that this positive trend reflects the expansion of the country’s defence industrial base. He expressed confidence that with ongoing policy support, various new initiatives, enhanced participation from the private sector, and improved export capabilities, the defence production sector is set to continue its momentum in the coming years.
