The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s counter-intelligence division conducted a significant pre-dawn sweep on Saturday, raiding many sites in relation to an alleged network engaged in online terror glorification, radicalization, and recruiting into terror ranks.
In response to new information that terror groups are attempting to revitalize their networks in the valley, comprehensive operations were carried out in Baramulla, Shopian, Anantnag, Kupwara, and Bandipora.
Usman Gulzar, who is incarcerated in Jammu, had his home raided in Shopian. Babar Dar’s home in Kupwara was raided by the authorities on suspicion of using SIM cards improperly to disseminate propaganda on social media.
Due to online radicalization, Laali’s home in Bandipora was invaded.
The raids are connected to a case involving the deliberate abuse of social media sites to promote terrorism and entice young people to join terrorist groups.
According to security establishment sources, agencies questioned around 5,000 people throughout the Valley in the wake of recent targeted assassinations.
Important information regarding efforts to broaden digital recruitment drives and reactivate sleeper modules surfaced during the questioning.
“Use of fake SIMs, encrypted apps and social media to push terror narratives and recruit vulnerable youth is being dealt with zero tolerance,” a top official stated.
