A mother in Bengaluru’s Vajrahalli neighborhood was accused of killing her twin daughters, who were four months old, before attempting suicide. The event happened on Tuesday afternoon at a home in Vajrahalli’s BCC HS Layout. The children’s father, Ramalingappa, filed a case claiming that his wife, Umadevi, had undergone IVF therapy and gave birth to the twin girls on May 5 of this year.
When Ramalingappa got home that afternoon, the room was locked. He allegedly discovered Umadevi attempting suicide after unlocking the door. In the same room, the twin daughters of the couple were discovered dead. Physicians at Shankar Hospital believed the babies had died from submersion in water.
Police claim that Umadevi killed her daughters before attempting suicide based on the father’s complaint. After giving birth, Umadevi’s behavior apparently changed, according to the family. She allegedly shown a lack of interest in the kids and had mentioned sending them to an ashram on multiple occasions. After that, she was admitted to a mental health facility, where medical professionals said that her behavior was caused by hormonal imbalance and postpartum depression.
The event is being further investigated by Talaghattapura Police, who have filed a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
