An official stated that a tigress that had killed four people, including two in the previous 24 hours, was tranquilized and seized on Monday by a special forest department team. However, the tigress passed away while being transported to a rescue facility.
He claimed that since the middle of last month, the tigress had been terrorizing areas of the districts of Wardha and Amravati. According to the official, it had killed four people since August 17, including two on September 6 and 7.
“A special forest department team at Shirjagaon Kasba in Chandur Bazar taluka tranquilized and captured it. It passed away while being transported to Nagpur’s Wildlife Rescue Center. The team that accompanied it made an unsuccessful attempt to bring the large cat back to life,” he stated.
After the post-mortem is finished, the cause of death will be determined, he continued.
The tigress had been moving from Ashti taluka in Wardha and had attacked humans and cattle in Varud, Morshi, and Chandur Bazar talukas for the previous 20 days, according to Amravati Deputy Conservator of Forests (Regional) Arjuna K R.
Four people were murdered by the tigress, according to a statement from the District Information Office (DIO) in Amravati. “Rambhau Bhoyar (74) of Narsingpur, Wardha was killed on August 17, Charandas Ikhe (55) of Bhambora, Morshi on August 27, Urmila Ivne (18) resident of Sonori in Chandur Bazar, on September 6 and Dinesh Aware (45) of Shirjagaon Kasba, Chandur Bazar on September 7,” it stated.
The forest department launched a high alert search effort using round-the-clock patrols, video traps, thermal drones, and public awareness campaigns since the local population was agitated after two deaths in a 24-hour period since September 6, according to the announcement.
“To avoid issues with law and order, the police and district administration maintained security. It stated, “Technical measures were used to render the tigress unconscious, preventing further danger to the area.”
The announcement also stated that the families of the deceased had received urgent financial support from the forest department. The operation involved personnel from the Amravati and Wardha forest divisions, the Melghat tiger project, the Akola forest department, a team from Pune, district administration, police, honorary wildlife guards, and non-governmental organizations.
