Delhi is gearing up to host the three-day BRICS Summit 2026 from September 11 to 13 at Bharat Mandapam. The gathering will bring together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, along with other foreign delegates, heads of international organisations and dignitaries. The national capital has been decorated with posters, lights and the colours of the Indian national flag to mark the occasion.
Security arrangements have been significantly strengthened across key areas of the city. Delhi Traffic Police have put in place detailed mobility plans and advisories to facilitate the smooth movement of foreign delegations while aiming to limit disruption for the public. Officials confirmed that extensive protocols are being followed, including carcade rehearsals on designated routes from nine hotels housing the guests to the summit venue. Staff have received briefings on the arrangements.
A total of 22 diversion points have been established, with alternative routes prepared for general traffic. Selected roads around Bharat Mandapam, including Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg, will face restrictions. Police have identified more than 35 roads where traffic will be controlled or diverted, particularly in central, south and adjoining parts of Delhi during VIP movements. Authorities have advised residents to rely on public transport, especially the Delhi Metro, during the summit period.
In addition to traffic measures, an official public holiday has been declared for schools and government offices on September 11.
City authorities are also focusing on improving Delhi’s appearance and infrastructure ahead of the event. The New Delhi Municipal Council is carrying out streetscape upgrades in major areas, including road repairs, cleaning and refreshing of kerbs, clearly marked zebra crossings, upgraded footpaths, thematic paintings and enhancements to public spaces.
