TAMIL NADU: The state’s political landscape is experiencing a major shift following renowned politician K. Annamalai’s decision to part ways with the BJP to embark on a new regional political movement. On Friday, a day after his birthday, the leader sent a resignation letter to the party’s politician Nitin Nabin, citing ideological differences as the reason for his departure.
Annamalai had joined the party with the aim of bringing positive change to Tamil Nadu and reforming the state’s long-standing political system. Highlighting his motivations in the letter, he wrote, “Most importantly, I wanted to change the notion that politics is a path only for the elite and a select few, not for the common man. I am extremely thankful to the BJP leadership for trusting a very young and raw man with great responsibility and leadership positions.”
He argued that while the state did undergo changes over the last decade, the foundations of those adaptations were too weak and faded over time. As a culturally rooted leader, he contended that the major parties failed to communicate in the language of the people, noting that he had strived to bridge this gap and express his thoughts simply.

The former BJP leader also expressed his gratitude, writing, “I would recall the multiple conversations with the top leadership and the disagreements I have expressed over the last 18 months.” He added, “I do not want to burden the top leadership any further with my ongoing thoughts on the way forward for a growth-oriented and culturally rooted politics in Tamil Nadu. After my conversations with our senior leadership, I have come to the conclusion that our views do not align regarding Tamil Nadu.”
He emphasized that after stepping down from the BJP, he will reflect on the true purpose of his political career and welcome the new experiences resulting from this decision. He requested that his resignation take effect immediately.
The leader ended on an optimistic note, reaffirming his sense of nationalism and his deep appreciation for the culture and heritage of both the state and the nation. Committed to laying strong building blocks, the politician vowed to bring about significant change for the people.
