Jaishankar Rejects ‘Dalal Nation’ Role As All-Party Meet Deliberates Pakistan’s Mediation Between US And Iran

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar told party leaders Wednesday that India would not act as a “dalal nation” in global geopolitics a pointed remark that came as an all-party parliamentary meeting took up the question of Pakistan’s reported role in brokering talks between Washington and Tehran.

The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at Parliament and drew a full ministerial lineup: Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The Centre used the session to brief opposition leaders on the West Asia situation.

Opposition benches had their own representation Sasmit Patra of the BJD, Lallan Singh of the JD(U), Congress’s Mukul Wasnik and Tariq Anwar, Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav, and CPI(M) MP John Brittas were among those present.

Discussion centred on the shifting diplomatic alignments in the region and where India stands within them particularly after Tehran’s envoy to Pakistan publicly denied that any US-Iran negotiations had taken place, contradicting claims attributed to Donald Trump.
