Palghar: A routine journey turned into a nightmare for a doctor couple after a metal guardrail pierced straight through their car during a horrific accident on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The couple suffered injuries but survived the terrifying crash, which has once again drawn attention to safety concerns on one of the state’s busiest highways.
The accident took place on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway when the couple’s car reportedly lost control before slamming into a roadside crash barrier. The impact was so violent that a section of the guardrail tore through the front of the vehicle and passed into the passenger compartment, leaving the car completely mangled.
Police, highway patrol personnel and emergency responders rushed to the spot soon after the accident was reported. The injured couple was rescued from the wreckage and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition has not been officially detailed, but authorities confirmed that both sustained injuries.
The exact cause of the crash is yet to be established. Investigators are looking into all possible factors, including the speed of the vehicle, the angle at which it struck the barrier, road conditions and whether the crash barrier functioned as intended. Officials have not indicated any evidence of foul play.
Images from the accident site have since gone viral on social media, showing the guardrail slicing through almost the entire length of the car. The shocking visuals have sparked widespread discussion about highway safety, with many questioning how a protective barrier could penetrate a vehicle instead of preventing a more serious impact.
Road safety experts point out that crash barriers are designed to absorb collision forces and redirect vehicles away from hazards. However, in rare but severe crashes especially those involving high speeds or sharp impact angles the barriers can fail in unexpected ways, making a detailed technical investigation essential.
The incident has renewed focus on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway, which has witnessed several major accidents over the years. Safety advocates have repeatedly called for stricter speed enforcement, periodic inspection of roadside barriers and continuous monitoring of highway infrastructure to reduce the risk of such devastating crashes.
Police are continuing their investigation and are expected to examine the damaged vehicle, the condition of the guardrail, CCTV footage and eyewitness statements before submitting a detailed report. As of now, authorities have not released the identities of the injured doctor couple or provided further updates on their medical condition.
