In a development that has drawn attention across Maharashtra’s political landscape, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde offered pointed remarks about the unexpected shared journey of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray. The two leaders travelled together on a flight from Mumbai to Nagpur on Friday, prompting questions and chatter about possible behind-the-scenes discussions.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Shinde described Fadnavis as a shrewd and experienced politician who fully understands the risks posed by unreliable allies. He specifically alluded to Thackeray as a “scheming friend,” underscoring lingering tensions within the Shiv Sena ecosystem. Shinde recalled how the Bharatiya Janata Party and the undivided Shiv Sena had once collaborated closely, including sharing political platforms in 2019. However, he noted that the alliance fractured when one party chose a different path and partnered with the Congress.
“Fadnavis is a very clever person. He knows very well how dangerous a scheming friend could be,” Shinde stated, framing the comment as a cautionary observation rooted in past political events.
