Delhi EV Policy: Cabinet Approves Ambitious New EV Strategy

An ambitious electric vehicle (EV) policy has been adopted by the Delhi government. The new regulation exempts EV vehicles up to 30 lakh rupees from road taxes and registration fees. The new regulation also requires that only electric two-wheelers be registered beginning in April 2028 and provides a 1 lakh rupee incentive for buying new EVs while discarding existing cars. The ambitious framework, which is scheduled for a phased four-year implementation beginning on July 1st, promises a significant fiscal outlay of 15,000 crore rupees to fully transition the nation’s capital to zero-emission transit by March 31st, 2030.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated during a news conference in New Delhi that the policy is only focused on electric vehicles, particularly zero-emission vehicles, with the ultimate goal of progressively making Delhi a pollution-free city for the benefit of its citizens. According to her, the administration has created a thorough strategy to carry out this in stages over the course of the following four years. According to Ms. Gupta, the government intends to spend 8,000 crore rupees year on road tax waivers and EV infrastructure. She went on to say that this program will provide advantages to Delhi residents totaling about 15,000 crore rupees.
