New Delhi : The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has called for nationwide protests on Friday, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak. Under the campaign slogan, “Every district. One day. One demand,” the outfit plans demonstrations in every district across the country. CJP leaders are also scheduled to meet Union ministers later in the day, reiterating that Pradhan’s resignation remains their primary demand despite the Centre’s promises of examination reforms.
The protests come amid heightened political activity over the past 24 hours. Activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike after receiving assurances from the government, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Union Cabinet would consider a draft law proposing fast-track courts and stricter punishment for those involved in examination paper leaks. The developments have further intensified the political debate over the issue.
The NEET controversy is also expected to dominate proceedings in Parliament, where Opposition parties have insisted that no discussion can begin until Pradhan steps down. Anticipating large-scale demonstrations, security has been stepped up across Delhi. Several Metro stations remain closed, and a number of schools in the national capital have shifted to alternative modes of learning due to security restrictions.
Activist Sonam Wangchuk on Thursday night ended his 26-day indefinite hunger strike after the Centre assured him that his key concerns would be considered and that no action would be taken against peaceful protesters. The decision followed a meeting with Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, during which the government assured him that Parliament would take up issues related to accountability and that no criminal cases would be filed against those who participated in peaceful demonstrations.
