New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday night announced that the Union Cabinet will consider a draft law aimed at tackling examination paper leaks by introducing fast-track courts and stricter punishment for offenders. The Prime Minister said the government would make every effort to have the legislation passed during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
He assured the nation that the government was committed to strengthening the legal framework to prevent such incidents in the future. Referring to the alleged NEET paper leak, the Prime Minister said the government’s immediate priority was to ensure that students did not lose an academic year. He noted that the administration mobilised all available resources to conduct the re-examination for nearly 2.2 million candidates within a short period, with the results declared on July 19.
Modi said that while several accused had already been arrested and sent to jail, the government believed stronger legal measures were necessary. He revealed that he had directed officials to prepare provisions for fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials in paper leak cases. The Prime Minister said the government intends to introduce the Bill in Parliament during the second week of the Monsoon Session, beginning Monday, and will seek its early passage in both Houses.
The announcement comes amid nationwide protests over the alleged NEET paper leak and repeated disruptions in Parliament, where the Opposition has demanded a discussion on the issue and sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The Centre has maintained that it has acted swiftly against those responsible and remains committed to introducing stronger legal and institutional safeguards to curb examination paper leaks.
