Army Officer’s Son, Dies After Car Plunges Into Drain

New Delhi: A 20 year old student pursuing higher education in the United States lost his life after the car he was driving plunged into a roadside drain near the Nangal Dewat traffic signal in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj during the early hours of Friday. The accident left his female friend, who was travelling with him, injured.

The deceased has been identified as Yashvendra, the son of an Indian Army officer. According to the police, Yashvendra was driving a car owned by his female friend, who is also a student at the same university in the United States. The two had reportedly gone out together and were on their way to drop her home when the tragic accident took place.

Police said the incident occurred when the vehicle was negotiating a sharp turn near the Nangal Dewat traffic signal. Preliminary investigations suggest that the car skidded on a slippery stretch of road, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle then overturned and fell into a roadside drain. The impact of the crash left both occupants trapped inside the overturned car.

After receiving information about the accident, a police team from Vasant Kunj South Police Station rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. With the help of local responders, the officers managed to pull both occupants out of the damaged vehicle. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Despite the efforts of doctors, Yashvendra succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. His female friend sustained injuries in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment. Police said her condition is stable, although they have not disclosed further details about the nature of her injuries.

Authorities have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the accident. According to the initial findings, there is no indication of foul play, and investigators believe the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the slippery road conditions while taking the sharp turn. However, officials said the precise cause of the crash will be established only after a detailed investigation, including an examination of the vehicle and other available evidence.

Police are also expected to record the statement of the injured survivor once her condition improves. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
