New Delhi : Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the latter released another Instagram video saying he had forgiven the students accused of using abusive language against him during the recent protests. Commenting on the Prime Minister’s post, Dipke asked whether the government’s message of forgiveness would also extend to the criminal cases registered against the protesters.
PM Modi addressed the controversy surrounding viral clips in which abusive remarks were made against him during the student protests over exam paper leaks. The protests, held at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and across the country, eventually culminated in the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Referring to the videos, the Prime Minister said the language used against him and his late mother was deeply offensive. However, he urged society not to respond with vengeance.
This was the Prime Minister’s fifth Instagram video in a week. A day earlier, he had released a selfie-style video praising Parliament’s passage of the amended anti-paper leak law, which prescribes stricter penalties for those involved in examination paper leaks. Reacting to that video, Dipke had sarcastically remarked, “Your skin is brighter than the country’s future.” While several states have reportedly withdrawn FIRs against students with no criminal background, investigations are continuing against protesters with criminal antecedents.
The issue gained renewed attention after Noida Police registered a Zero FIR against a teenager accused of making abusive remarks against the Prime Minister during the July 23 protest at Jantar Mantar. The FIR has since been transferred to Delhi Police for further investigation. The teenager later released an apology video, saying she had been influenced by those around her who were raising abusive slogans.
