10 Smart Kitchen Tips To Follow –
- Prepare everything before turning on the gas
Most of the time, gas is wasted when the stove is on and we are looking for spice jars or cleaning vegetables. Before lighting the gas, keep all the ingredients like chopped vegetables, flour, water and spices ready together on the kitchen platform. This will reduce the time the gas is on, you may see it as a basic thing but mostly people make such small mistakes and consume more gas.
- Cook with the lid on
Cooking in an open pot releases steam, due to which it takes a long time for vegetables, lentils or food to cook. If you always cook with the lid on, the steam will remain inside, which will create natural pressure and the food will cook faster. This simple method can save 20 to 30 percent of gas. Isn’t It easy?
- Make maximum use of pressure cooker
A pressure cooker should be used instead of a pan or a kadhai for dal, rice or any other cooking task. Cooking in a pressure cooker uses the most gas energy and the food is also ready in a very short time.
- Bring the items in the fridge to room temperature
If you take milk, curd or vegetables out of the fridge and put them directly on the gas to heat, then double the gas will be used to heat them. Always take out cold food an hour or two before cooking, so that it comes to room temperature and reduces gas consumption.

1. Use the pressure cooker – Pressure cooking reduces cooking time by 30–70%, especially for dals, beans, potatoes, and meats.
2. Soak pulses, beans and rice – Soaking reduces cooking time significantly.
Typical soaking times:…
- Clean the burner properly
Yes, we often do not pay attention to this. If the burner of a gas stove is dirty, the flame emanating from it turns yellow, which indicates that gas is being wasted. The flame of the gas should always be blue in color. The burner should be cleaned regularly. So that its pores open and the gas can be used completely and efficiently.
- Soak lentils, rice and pulses in advance
Before cooking lentils, rice or pulses such as gram and dal, soak them in water for at least 30 to 60 minutes. Thus, the soaked pulses become soft, due to which the cooker has to whistle less while cooking and gas is also saved.
- Use of small burners
To make the gas cylinder run for a long time amid LPG shortage, use a small gas burner or choose a burner according to the size of the vessel. If the vessel is small and you cook on a large burner, the flame goes out of the vessel and is wasted in the air. Always set the gas flame in such a way that it does not go out of the bottom of the vessel.
- Keep the amount of water in moderation
If more water is added than required in cooking, the gas will have to be kept on for a longer time to evaporate it. Therefore, while cooking, add adequate water to vegetables or lentils so that the cooking is done quickly and the gas is not wasted on drying the excess water and your vegetables and lentils do not get overcooked.
- Smarter cooking
Use an electric kettle for boiling water for tea, pasta, or blanching vegetables or to add to a pressure cooker. It is more energy-efficient than LPG for water heating. Batch cook rice, dal, beans, potatoes for 2-3 meals. Refrigerate the extra portions. For the same fuel consumption you get double the meals cooked.
- Switch off early and use residual heat
Many foods continue cooking with trapped heat. Examples: Rice/khichdi, Pasta, Boiled vegetables, Dal after pressure cooking, Turning off the flame 2–3 minutes earlier can save fuel.
