Widespread Rainfall In Gujarat: 215 Talukas Receive Rain In 24 Hours, Alerts Issued Across 28 Districts

Ahmedabad: After a scorching summer, Gujarat is experiencing a powerful start to the monsoon, with 215 talukas across the state recording rainfall in the past 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for 28 districts due to the forecast of continued heavy rains.
In Sabarkantha district, intense overnight rainfall in Khedbrahma and surrounding upstream areas caused the Harnav River to swell rapidly. The sudden rise in water levels around midnight left a herder family and about 80 livestock stranded near the riverbank. Fire brigades from Himatnagar, Idar, and Khedbrahma launched a late-night rescue operation, managing to save three family members and 18 animals. Unfortunately, 62 animals were swept away by the floodwaters.
Rainfall has been widespread across the state, with heavy downpours recorded until 6:00 AM on June 27, 2025. The highest rainfall was reported in Maliya Hatina taluka of Junagadh, which received 157 mm (6.18 inches), followed by Vadali in Sabarkantha with 153 mm (6 inches). According to the IMD forecast for Friday, June 27, orange alerts have been issued for heavy rainfall in Kutch, Rajkot, Junagadh, Navsari, Valsad, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, and Mahisagar. Yellow alerts are in effect for Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Botad, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Narmada, Chhota Udepur, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mehsana, and Gandhinagar.
On June 26, southern Gujarat and Saurashtra experienced intense downpours. In Junagadh district, a woman was swept away in the swift currents of the Utavaliya River near Keshod and remains missing. Meanwhile, in Pardi, Valsad, a car was caught in rising floodwaters, but a local youth managed to rescue the driver just in time.
