Somnath Corridor Controversy : Locals Raised Slogans Against Project, Shouted We Don’t Want Corridor At Cost Of Our Houses

Somnath : The controversy over the construction of the Somnath Temple Corridor has intensified today. A huge project to develop the Somnath Temple corridor in Prabhas Patan will come up in the coming days. As many as 384 houses will be acquired for the project.

But without deciding the amount of compensation for the houses to be acquired and the guest house, the government employees started asking for documents from the 384 people. Employees also asked for bank account passbook, PAN card, Aadhaar card copy, which angered the people. The locals said, we don’t want a corridor at the expense of the house and shouted slogans.

The government should be ashamed for making people homeless and building a corridor said the angry locals, “Our ancestors worshipped this temple when there was no one. The government should be ashamed for making so many people homeless and building a corridor.” In addition, the locals said, no notice has been given yet. They are only verbally told that you have to fill the form. When we say that we do not want to fill it, they say that we have to fill it.

People affected by the corridor say that they were not given any prior information or notice and the acquisition process has been started directly. Given the opposition from the locals, the issue is likely to heat up further in the coming days. It is worth mentioning that, for a long time now, discussions have been going on about the Somnath Temple Corridor, but till date no transparent details about the corridor have been released by the Somnath Temple Trust or the administration.

The Somnath Corridor Project is an ambitious project by the Government of Gujarat for the development of Somnath Temple and its surrounding area. Its main objective is to develop Somnath as a grand pilgrimage destination. The project includes enhancing facilities for tourists, expanding the temple premises and beautifying the entire area.
