Rajula Marriage Stirs ‘Love Jihad’ Row In Amreli; Woman Releases Video Saying She Married Of Her Own Will

Amreli: A missing woman from Rajula in Amreli district has sparked fresh controversy after releasing a video publicly stating she married a Muslim man of her own free will — even as police were actively investigating her disappearance.

The woman had left home around ten days ago, telling her family she was going to Surat for a beauty parlour course. When her family lost contact with her, they filed a missing person complaint with the police.

While the investigation was underway, the woman released a video alongside her partner. In it, she says clearly: “I got married of my own choice. If anything happens to me, my husband, or my in-laws, my family will be responsible for it.”

Police have now taken up the video as evidence and are in the process of recording her official statement.

The development comes at a time when Ahmedabad had already seen three separate Love Jihad complaints filed within a single week, with police arresting three accused in a POCSO case. Against that backdrop, the Rajula case has drawn a mixed response from Hindu organisations with no clear consensus on how to view it, given that the woman herself appears to have acted independently. Police say further action will follow based on her recorded statement.

Note: The term “Love Jihad” is used as cited in the original source. Its use here is descriptive and does not reflect editorial endorsement. The woman in the video states her marriage was consensual and voluntary.
