Ahmedabad: After a long dry spell, the second phase of monsoon showers has returned to Gujarat. Since early morning, several parts of the state have witnessed intense rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its forecast up to 4 p.m., issuing red, orange, and yellow alerts across different regions.
Red Alert in Two Districts
According to the weather department, Surendranagar and Botad districts are under red alert until 4 p.m. The IMD has warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in these two districts during this period.
Yellow Alert in North Gujarat and Saurashtra
A yellow alert has been declared in select districts of North Gujarat and Saurashtra. The IMD report states that Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, and Mahisagar in North Gujarat, along with Dwarka and Porbandar in Saurashtra, will receive light to moderate scattered rainfall till evening.
Orange Alert in Other Districts
For the remaining districts of Gujarat, an orange alert remains in place until 4 p.m. The weather department has predicted moderate to heavy scattered rainfall across these regions.
Morning Rainfall Report
Heavy showers since dawn have led to waterlogging in several districts. Based on rainfall data collected between 6 a.m. and 12 noon:
- Ahmedabad recorded 1.22 inches,
- Gandhinagar 0.94 inches,
- Surat 0.43 inches,
- Chhota Udepur 0.39 inches,
- Narmada 0.35 inches.
Additionally, Tapi received 0.24 inches, Valsad 0.12 inches, Junagadh and Banaskantha 0.08 inches each, while Mehsana, Kadi, Dang, Navsari, and Tapi reported 0.04 inches of rainfall.

As per the IMD’s forecast:
- Saturday, August 16: Heavy rain is likely in Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad.
- Sunday, August 17: Heavy rainfall is expected in Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad.
