Gujarat to Build Theme-Based ‘Namo Gaurav Parks’ Across Municipal Corporations At A Total Proposed Cost of ₹100 Crore

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has decided to develop theme-based ‘Namo Gaurav Parks’ across the state’s municipal corporations. To kickstart the initiative, the state government has allocated ₹20 crore under the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department in the Gujarat Budget 2026–27.

The parks are designed to offer a wide range of recreational activities including sports, fitness, cultural programmes, ecology-based experiences, and technology-integrated amenities. Beyond enhancing the urban living environment, these green spaces are also expected to support climate resilience by increasing green cover, promoting biodiversity, and improving microclimatic conditions.

Objectives Behind the Initiative

The core aim of developing Namo Gaurav Parks is to create safe, inclusive, and vibrant community spaces that cater to the recreational and cultural needs of urban residents. Children, youth, and senior citizens — across all age groups will have access to modern and engaging recreational facilities. Dedicated zones for various physical activities will also be set up within the parks to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and healthy lifestyles.

Cultural activities, social gatherings, and organised events planned within the parks are expected to strengthen community bonds among urban residents. Environmental sustainability is another key objective, with the parks incorporating plantation of diverse trees and plants, thematic green landscapes, and eco-friendly features. Measures such as increased green cover, water conservation systems, and sustainable infrastructure will be integrated to build climate resilience and improve the overall quality of urban life.

Key Components of Namo Gaurav Parks

The parks are proposed to feature several distinct components. Children’s Play Zones will be equipped with age-appropriate play equipment. Theme-Based Landscaping and Green Zones will include plantations of local tree species, flower beds, theme-based sculptures and artwork, as well as butterfly gardens and herbal gardens.

The Fitness and Sports Area will house an open gym, jogging and walking tracks, and courts for sports such as badminton and volleyball. Recreational and Cultural Activity Spaces will include an open-air amphitheatre or performance stage along with lawns for yoga and meditation.

Water bodies and eco-friendly features such as small ponds, fountains, drip irrigation systems for green areas, and rainwater harvesting infrastructure are also planned. Public amenities including drinking water facilities, clean public toilets, seating benches, and gazebos will be provided, along with accessible pathways for persons with disabilities.

Under the Smart Park Features category, the parks will be powered by solar energy, and will offer Wi-Fi connectivity, sensor-based lighting systems, and digital information signages.

The construction of these theme-based Namo Gaurav Parks reflects the state government’s strategic urban investment aimed at strengthening the environmental, recreational, and socio-cultural dimensions of city life. The initiative supports the state’s vision of inclusive, people-centric, and climate-resilient urban development while enhancing the ease of living in municipal corporation areas.
