Gujarat Police Recruitment: Ex-Agniveers Get 20% Reservation, Exemption from Written Exam and Physical Test

The Gujarat government has announced further relief for former Agniveers seeking jobs in the state police. Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi made the announcement in Surat. He said former Agniveers will now be exempt from the written examination and the physical test in the direct recruitment process for designated uniformed posts in the police department. According to the amended rules issued by the Home Department on October 9, 2026, the provision will make it easier for Agniveers to secure police jobs.

Key provisions and relaxations

  • Written exam exemption: Agniveers will no longer have to take a written examination for police recruitment.
  • Physical test exemption: Since they are already physically fit, they have also been exempted from the physical test (in effect since July).
  • Reservation: 20 per cent of posts in police recruitment have been reserved for former Agniveers.
  • Age relaxation: Agniveers from the first batch will get a special relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit.

The decision gives young people who have served in the armed forces a strong opportunity to build a career in the Gujarat Police.
