Ahmedabad: A deeply shocking scam orchestrated by land mafias has come to light in Gujarat, exposing serious lapses in the administrative system. The scam was exposed by student leader , raising pointed questions against the government and the administration.
Law and technology trampled upon
According to the exposé, land mafias built an entire fake network to illegally transfer 9 vigha of land worth crores of rupees. The most startling part of the scam is that a farmer who died 53 years ago, in 1972, was shown as alive on official records in 2025. The scam involved misuse of technology and government systems, effectively circumventing both legal and technological safeguards.
Grandfather shown as 8 years younger than his own grandson
An Aadhaar card was issued in 2010 in the name of the man who had died in 1972, and biometric verification for the same deceased individual was carried out on April 8, 2025. The fraudulent documents created for this purpose listed the grandfather’s age as eight years younger than his grandson’s. A forged power of attorney was reportedly created in the deceased farmer’s name in an attempt to seize land worth crores. The case, which unfolded at the sub-registrar’s office in Bayad, also involved alleged banking fraud and the use of hired witnesses, according to Jadeja. He has demanded an immediate and impartial investigation into the matter. Questions are now being raised over how the administration remained unaware despite such large-scale documentary fraud.
