Gujarat Congress Leaders Summoned To Delhi; Move Raises Speculation About Announcement Of New Regional President

Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge To Chair The Meeting

Following the resignation of Shaktisinh Gohil as the head of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, the Gujarat Congress leaders have been summoned to Delhi. A meeting will be held today (July 10) with the former state presidents and opposition leaders. The meeting will reportedly take place under the chairmanship of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. Speculations are that discussions about the new Regional President will take place in the meeting.

The meeting will be attended by the former president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, along with opposition leaders. The following leaders will attend the meeting that will take place in Delhi-

  • Amit Chavda
  • Siddharth Patel
  • Paresh Dhanani
  • Shaktisinh Gohil
  • Geniben Thakor
  • Shailesh Parmar

The former president of GPCC, Shaktisinh Gohil, had resigned within 4 hours of the declaration of the results of the Kadi-Visavadar by-elections, which took place on June 23. After him, the responsibility was given in the hands of the Danilimda MLA Shailesh Parmar.

Notably, in the past, leaders of the Patidar and the OBC communities have been known of being active in Delhi in order to give Regional Presidentship to their community. The summons from Delhi hints at the announcement of the new Regional President.
