Gujarat Braces for Heavy Downpours: Four Systems Trigger Rain Surge, Orange Alert in South and Saurashtra from 17th Amid Shravan End

After a brief lull in rainfall over the past few days, heavy to very heavy rain has been forecast for the state. Four weather systems capable of bringing rain have become active simultaneously, leading to widespread rainy conditions. A strong round of showers is expected toward the end of the Shravan month. An orange alert has been issued for districts in South Gujarat and Saurashtra starting from the 17th.

Low Pressure from Bay of Bengal to Advance Toward Gujarat

Currently, an upper air cyclonic circulation along with a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is active and expected to move toward various parts of Gujarat within the next 48 hours. Additionally, one end of a monsoon trough system is descending to the border areas of Rajasthan, North Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. Moreover, a trough system at the mid-level atmosphere has also become active. Scattered showers have already begun in isolated areas of the state today.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Next Seven Days

The meteorological department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in different parts of the state over the next seven days, with a special orange alert issued for August 18 to 20. According to the forecast, heavy rain is possible today in the southern and northern regions of Gujarat. A yellow alert for heavy rain has been declared in several districts, including Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Starting tomorrow, August 16, the intensity of rain is likely to increase across the state. Very heavy rain is forecast in all districts except Patan. The weather department has indicated the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain for the next seven days. In particular, extremely heavy rain is predicted for Gujarat on August 18, leading to an orange alert from August 18 to 20. During this period, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Rainfall intensity is expected to decrease from August 21 onward.
