Ahmedabad: In a major boost for Indian sports, Ahmedabad has been officially recommended as the host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Sport Executive Board, during its meeting on Thursday, confirmed that Ahmedabad would be proposed as the preferred host, edging past Abuja, Nigeria, which was also in contention.
The final confirmation is expected during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26, 2025. Officials noted that the recommendation followed an extensive assessment of parameters including infrastructure readiness, governance standards, athlete experience, and alignment with the core values of the Commonwealth movement.
If ratified, Ahmedabad will become the second Indian city to host the Games after New Delhi, which successfully organized the 2010 edition. India’s consistent performance in Commonwealth sporting events finishing fourth at Birmingham 2022 further strengthens its case. Supported by the Central Government, the Gujarat state administration, and the Indian Olympic Association, Ahmedabad has pledged to deliver a dynamic and inclusive Games celebration that reflects the country’s sporting progress and cultural diversity.
