Ahmedabad District Records Staggering 21 Inches of Rain in a Single Month; Here’s Which Taluka Topped the Chart

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad city and the wider district witnessed an extraordinary spell of rainfall through July, with the month alone accounting for the bulk of this year’s monsoon total. The district has recorded an average of 22.25 inches of rain so far this season 83.55 percent of its total seasonal average and strikingly, 21.20 inches of that, or roughly 80 percent of the season’s rainfall, fell in July alone.
Slow Start, Dramatic Turnaround
The monsoon got off to a sluggish start this year. In early July, Ahmedabad district had recorded just 1 inch of rain (3.61 percent of its seasonal average), while Ahmedabad city itself had received only 0.43 inches (1.33 percent). But as the month progressed, the rains intensified dramatically. Ahmedabad city alone logged 22.45 inches of rainfall during July, accounting for close to 69 percent of its seasonal average in a single month.
Dholka Records Highest Rainfall at 30.82 Inches
Among the district’s talukas, Dholka recorded the highest rainfall at 30.82 inches, followed closely by Dhandhuka at 30.62 inches and Viramgam at 27.20 inches. Mandal received 21.14 inches, Dascroi 21.02 inches, Detroj 20.23 inches, and Bavla 20 inches. Sanand recorded 16.35 inches, while Dholera saw 12.25 inches.
The heavy rainfall over the course of the month has led to a significant rise in water levels across the district’s reservoirs and low-lying areas.
