Rajkot: Two persons lost their lives while two others suffered critical injuries when their car smashed into a divider on a railway overbridge at Jetalsar Junction in Jetpur, Rajkot, in the early hours of Saturday.
According to police, the collision was so powerful that it tore the vehicle into two separate pieces.
The group was heading back from a Maha Shivratri fair held in Junagadh, where thousands of devotees had assembled for celebrations and darshan. The deceased have been identified as Muskan Bagda and Arun Wala, both of whom died on the spot.
The injured, Amit Parmar and Jaideep Chauhan, suffered severe wounds and were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care.
Initial reports indicate that the driver lost control of the car, which then slammed into the central divider on the bridge with tremendous force, resulting in the vehicle being torn in half.
The incident caused significant traffic snarls in the vicinity for a considerable period. Police personnel arrived at the scene soon after receiving information, restored traffic flow, and transferred the bodies for post-mortem procedures.
Authorities have launched a detailed probe to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
