Shilpa Shetty’s Bastian Bandra to Shut Down Amid ₹60 Crore Fraud Allegations

Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty has revealed that her popular Mumbai restaurant, Bastian Bandra, will close its doors this Thursday. The announcement coincides with a high-profile controversy, as Shetty and her husband, Raj Kundra, face allegations of defrauding a Mumbai businessman of ₹60 crore.

While Shetty did not link the closure to the legal battle, the timing has raised eyebrows, given the couple’s ongoing issues tied to their former home shopping venture.

Shetty’s Emotional Goodbye

In a heartfelt social media post, Shetty called the closure “the end of an era.”

“This Thursday, we say goodbye to one of Mumbai’s most beloved spots BASTIAN BANDRA. It’s been a place of cherished memories, vibrant nights, and a cornerstone of the city’s nightlife,” she wrote. Shetty announced a special farewell event for loyal patrons to celebrate the restaurant’s legacy before it shuts down.

She clarified that the Bastian brand will live on through its other location, Bastian At The Top, situated on the 48th floor of Kohinoor Square in Dadar West.

The ₹60 Crore Fraud Allegations

The closure comes amid a cheating case filed by Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services. According to IANS, Kothari alleges that between 2015 and 2023, Shetty and Kundra swindled him out of ₹60 crore through their company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. The funds, meant for business expansion, were allegedly diverted for personal use.

The complaint has been lodged with Mumbai’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for investigation.

Shetty and Kundra’s Legal Defense

The couple’s lawyer, Prashant Patil, dismissed the allegations as baseless. “My clients have been made aware of media reports about a supposed case filed against them with the EOW, Mumbai. They categorically deny these claims, which are civil in nature and were already addressed by the NCLT Mumbai on October 4, 2024,” Patil stated, emphasizing that the matter has been resolved through prior legal proceedings.

Bastian Bandra’s Legacy

Launched in 2016 by Shetty and restaurateur Ranjit Bindra, Bastian Bandra moved to a larger venue in Bandra in 2023. Renowned for its seafood-focused menu, stylish multi-level design, and celebrity clientele, it became a go-to dining spot in Mumbai.
