Mumbai: Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty Kundra and her husband, Raj Kundra, are facing a challenging period as they close their renowned Bandra restaurant, Bastian, this Thursday. The closure coincides with allegations of a Rs 60.4 crore fraud involving the couple, as reported by IANS. Shilpa announced the shutdown on her Instagram stories, expressing nostalgia for the venue that has been a cornerstone of Mumbai’s nightlife since its opening in 2016.
Bastian Bandra, co-owned with restaurateur Ranjit Bindra, was celebrated for its seafood offerings and artistic decor, attracting a star-studded clientele. After relocating to a new Bandra location in 2023, the restaurant continued to thrive as a celebrity hotspot. In her emotional note, Shilpa described the closure as “the end of an era,” highlighting the memories and vibrant nights the venue fostered. She also shared plans for a final event on Thursday to honor loyal patrons, promising an evening filled with nostalgia and celebration.
The restaurant’s closure follows accusations from Mumbai businessman Deepak Kothari, who claims Shilpa and Raj defrauded him of over Rs 60 crore through a loan-cum-investment deal linked to their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. According to an IANS report, Kothari alleges the funds, provided between 2015 and 2023 for business expansion, were misused for personal expenses. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is investigating the case, though the couple’s advocate, Prashant Patil, dismissed the allegations as “baseless” in a statement to IANS, asserting they stem from a civil matter already addressed by the NCLT Mumbai.
While Bastian Bandra closes, Shilpa noted that the brand’s legacy will continue at Bastian at the Top, where the weekly Arcane Affair event will carry on.
