Santy Sharma Supported Badshah Over Tateeree Controversy, Says ‘Change Lyrics, Don’t Judge’

The controversy surrounding rapper Badshah and his song Tateeree has sparked widespread debate online, but independent hip-hop artist Santy Sharma has come forward in support of the singer, urging people not to rush to judgment.
Santy Sharma shared a detailed message on Instagram defending Badshah after the track faced backlash over its allegedly explicit lyrics and controversial visuals. In his post, Sharma explained that rap music often involves competitive lyricism where artists reference rivals or use strong language as part of the genre’s creative style. He noted that many listeners in India may not fully understand how hip-hop culture works, which can lead to misinterpretation of lyrics and artistic intent.
The rapper also pointed out that the production process of a song can involve multiple teams. While the audio track may be created first, the video is often handled by a separate creative group. As a result, artists may not always have complete control over how visuals eventually appear.
Sharma acknowledged that if certain lyrics are considered inappropriate, they can be revised or replaced. However, he argued that condemning an artist without understanding the broader context is unfair. In his message, he added that he apologises if anyone feels hurt but believes the reaction to the situation should be more balanced.
The debate intensified after Badshah’s track triggered criticism online, prompting the singer to issue an apology and address concerns raised by the public.
Moreover, the Haryana State Commission for Women issued orders on March 6 to explain his side but as he couldn’t make it, the fresh orders to arrest and confiscate the passport of Badshah over the controversy surrounding his song Tateeree was issued which he failed to attend following which he missed the deadline of 3 pm before the Commission set by the Chairperson.
A panel of three lawyers representing Badshah said the singer couldn’t attend the court due to his prior professional commitment and yet he already uploaded a video addressing the issue. Even after this, three separate cases have also been registered against badshah in Panchkula, Jind and Khap Panchayats and social organizations have also demanded a aban on the song, calling it against Haryanvi culture.
