Mithun Chakraborty Hospitalised, Undergoes Successful Minor Surgery in Kolkata

Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata, where he underwent a minor surgical procedure on his right hand. The surgery, performed on Thursday, involved the removal of a metal plate that had been implanted earlier following an old injury. Hospital sources confirmed that the operation was successful and that the 76-year-old actor is currently in a stable condition.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited Chakraborty at the hospital, located near the EM Bypass, on Friday morning. The Chief Minister spoke with the actor, enquired about his health, and also interacted with the treating doctors. In a social media post, Adhikari wrote that Mithun Chakraborty had been admitted due to health issues and prayed for his speedy recovery.

Speaking to the media after the visit, Adhikari described the procedure as a “small surgery” and said there was no cause for concern. He noted that Chakraborty had informed him and state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya about the planned operation but preferred to keep the matter private. The Chief Minister added that the actor is recovering well and is expected to be discharged soon, possibly returning to his New Town residence.

Hospital sources indicated that Chakraborty’s vital parameters are normal and that he may require a few days of rest at home following discharge. Doctors have not shared further medical details beyond confirming the success of the procedure.

Known for iconic films such as Disco Dancer and a career spanning over five decades with more than 350 films, Mithun Chakraborty remains a significant figure in both cinema and Bengal politics. Fans and colleagues have expressed relief at the positive health update and wished him a quick recovery.
