Mirzapur is officially headed to the big screen, and its first teaser is already setting timelines alight. The makers dropped the first-look teaser of Mirzapur: The Movie this week, giving fans their earliest glimpse of how the hit web series is being reimagined for theatres. The teaser brings back several familiar faces while introducing a few new ones, building out a bigger, bolder version of the Mirzapur universe for the big screen.
From OTT to the big screen
Mirzapur: The Movie marks one of the first instances of a popular Indian web series making the direct jump from streaming to theatres, leaning on its built-in fan base to scale up the franchise’s gritty, high-stakes storytelling for cinema halls.
The teaser brings Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu back into the fold, while Jitendra Kumar steps into the role of Bablu Pandit, reviving one of the franchise’s most loved characters for the new film.
Ravi Kishan joins the cast as well, his entry hinting at a fresh, formidable presence within the Mirzapur world. The story expands well beyond its usual Purvanchal turf this time, stretching the action out to the deserts of Rajasthan as the franchise goes bigger in scale than ever before.
The film stays anchored to the universe’s original timeline, picking up an untold chapter from around the period Season 1 first arrived in 2018, built out specifically for the cinema format.
Mirzapur: The Movie cast
The film brings back its original ensemble Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Ali Fazal, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Shweta Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Abhishek Banerjee, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang and Harshita Shekhar Gaur.
There are new faces too. Jitendra Kumar takes over as Bablu Pandit, a role essayed by Vikrant Massey in the show’s first season. The new additions also include Mohitt Maalik, Ravi Kishan, Sushant Singh and Sonal S Chauhan.
Mirzapur: The Movie is presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment. It is directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, with Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar producing under Excel Entertainment, alongside co-producers Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani. The film is set for a theatrical release on September 4, 2026, in Hindi and Telugu.
