Playback Singer Kumar Sanu Issues Legal Warning to Former Spouse Over Pregnancy Abuse Claims

Renowned playback singer Kumar Sanu has taken swift legal action against his former wife, Rita Bhattacharya, following her public allegations that he subjected her to severe mistreatment during her pregnancy. The move comes just days after Bhattacharya’s emotional revelations in a candid interview, reigniting scrutiny over their tumultuous past.

Through his attorney, Sana Raees Khan, Sanu delivered a formal legal notice to Bhattacharya, accompanied by a strongly worded public statement. The notice underscores Sanu’s decades-long contributions to Indian music, emphasizing that baseless accusations cannot tarnish a career built on entertaining generations. “For over 40 years, Mr. Kumar Sanu has poured his soul into music, giving joy to millions and earning love and respect across the world,” it states. “Hurtful lies may create noise for a moment, but they can never erase the legacy of an artist who has given a lifetime of music and memories to generations.”

The statement further vows to counter any efforts to tarnish his reputation with rigorous legal measures. “We will ensure that malicious attempts to defame him are met with the full force of the law to protect his dignity, legacy and family honour,” it declares. “No individual or media platform has the right to malign a father’s honour or trade his family’s respect for sensationalism.”

Bhattacharya’s disclosures surfaced during a recent conversation with YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, where she detailed the hardships endured while expecting her third child amid their ongoing divorce. Left to manage two young sons alone, she claimed Sanu withheld essential support. “He denied them milk. He denied them medical care. You don’t know how much this man has tortured my children,” she recounted. Bhattacharya shared that the local milkman continued deliveries out of sympathy despite instructions to the contrary, and the family doctor who had delivered all three boys faced similar barriers.

She further alleged receiving a mere Rs 100 from Sanu during the separation proceedings, forcing her to liquidate her jewelry to survive. “I have seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in life,” Bhattacharya reflected, her voice heavy with the weight of those struggles.

The interview also touched on a particularly harrowing episode during the 2005 Mumbai floods, when two of their sons, Zico and Jaan, vanished for hours. Bhattacharya described searching frantically through the night in terror, only to receive no inquiry from Sanu about their safety.

Sanu and Bhattacharya wed in 1980, when the singer was still rising in the industry. Their marriage dissolved in 1994, after which Sanu briefly pursued a relationship with actress Kunickaa Sadanand. Sadanand, currently a contestant on Bigg Boss 19, has previously alluded to a live-in arrangement with an unnamed married man, describing herself as his “married wife” despite no formal union.

Sanu later found stability with Saloni Bhattacharya, tying the knot in 2001; the pair now shares two daughters.

This latest chapter in their long-separated lives highlights the enduring scars of personal conflicts, even as Sanu’s melodic legacy endures. As legal proceedings unfold, the episode serves as a stark reminder of the private battles behind public personas.
