India To Host BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting 2026 Under Ajit Doval’s Chairmanship

New Delhi: India is set to host the BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting on June 22 and 23, 2026. The meeting will be led by Shri Ajit Doval, KC, National Security Adviser to the Government of India, according to the MEA.

During the two-day gathering, National Security Advisers and Heads of Delegation from BRICS member nations will deliberate on the theme, “Non-traditional Security Challenges Confronting the World Today.” Discussions will focus on the changing landscape of global security threats, the growing impact of emerging technologies on national security, and the challenges arising from new forms of risks, as per MEA.

According to the statement, the delegates will also assess the outcomes of the recent BRICS Joint Working Group meetings on Counter-Terrorism and Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), while exploring avenues for deeper cooperation among member countries in addressing these issues.

Fourth time in a row India is chairing this meeting as previously they held it in 2012, 2016 and 2021.

The theme for India’s Chairship is under “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, emphasizing a people-centric and humanity-first approach articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Rio Summit in 2025. 

BRICS & Its Objective 

BRICS is a confluence of eleven major emerging markets and developing countries of the world- Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates. The group serves as an effective platform for consultation and cooperation on contemporary issues having global as well as regional significance, and issues of global political and economic governance. 

The official website for BRICS 2026 highlights how the BRICS agenda has expanded considerably from its initial focus on economic issues of mutual concern and its structure around three main pillars-political and security, Economy and finance and cultural and people to people exchanges.
