From Veronica To Ally: Why Kirti Sanon’s Cocktail 2 Character Is Nothing Like Deepika Padukone’s Iconic Fashionista

Mumbai: When Cocktail released in 2012, one character ended up dominating fashion conversations long after the credits rolled. Deepika Padukone’s Veronica wasn’t just bold, carefree and unapologetic she became a style phenomenon. From her bodycon dresses to statement accessories, fans wanted to dress like her, and fashion brands rushed to recreate her looks.
So, when news of Cocktail 2 surfaced, comparisons were inevitable.
But according to celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania, audiences expecting another veronica may be in for a suprise.
Speaking recently about the much awaited sequel, Anaita revealed that Kirti Sanon’s character, Ally, has been designed with a completely different personality and fashion sensibility. While Veronica thrived on glamour and trend led dressing, Ally embraces a more relaxed, bohemian spirit.
“Ally is definitely more bohemian and cool. Veronica was more of a fashion girl”, Anaita shared, explaning the key difference between the two women.
The distinction may sound subtle, but for a stylist known for creating some of Bollywood’s most memorable looks, it speaks volumes. Veronica’s wardrobe in the original film reflected a woman who loved fashion and wasn’t afraid to use it as a form of self expression. Ally, on the other hand, is less about making a statement and more about dressing naturally according to who she is.
Anaita explained that her styling process always begins with understanding a character’s emotional journey rather than following trends. That’s exactly what shaped Ally’s wardrobe in “Cocktail 2”. Expect flowing silhouettes, layered separates, textured fabrics and a free spirited aesthetic that feels effortless rather than carefully curated.
The revelation comes as excitement continues to build around the sequel, which stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. While the original film revolved around the unforgettable dynamic between Veronica and Meera, the new installment promises a fresh set of characters and relationships.
Rashmika’s character, Diya, has also been given a distinct identity, with Anaita ensuring that every look reflects the character’s personal story. Shahid Kapoor’s Kunal, meanwhile, sports a laid back wardrobe featuring relaxed fits and traditional textile influences, including ikat and bandhani details.
Even the franchise’s famous beachwear moments have been reimagined. While Veronica’s swimwear looks became iconic among fans, Ally’s wardrobe reportedly leans into colourful prints and bohemian influences that align with her personality.
More than a decade after “Cocktail” redefined Bollywood fashion, “Cocktail 2” appears determined to carve its own path. And if Anaita’s latest comments are anything to go by, Kriti’s Ally isn’t stepping into Veronica’s shoes she’s creating a style identity entirely her own.
