Harry Styles Sparks Backlash Over 9/11-Timed NYC Concert Ticket Artwork

Harry Styles finds himself at the centre of controversy over his ongoing New York residency, after fans flagged concerns about the artwork on one of his concert tickets.

What’s the controversy about?

A ticket for his September 9 show at Madison Square Garden shows an illustration of a yellow car, apparently carrying Styles, flying above the Empire State Building, with a trail extending from the vehicle across the landmark’s spire. The image, shared online by a concertgoer, quickly sparked discussion among fans over its timing and imagery.

The unease stems largely from the show’s proximity to the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The September 9 concert took place just two days ahead of the anniversary, as New York prepared to mark the deaths of nearly 3,000 people in the 2001 attacks.

For some fans, the pairing of a flying vehicle, a well-known New York skyscraper, and the timing made the artwork difficult to view. Several questioned why the design had been chosen for a New York show during such a sensitive period.

How netizens reacted

The image drew sharp reactions online after a fan posted it. Some called the choice inappropriate given the anniversary week, while others asked who had signed off on the artwork. A few, however, suggested the design was likely intended as lighthearted tour art rather than any reference to the attacks.

One user wrote, “Harry Styles, this is the ticket for one of the shows during the week of 9/11….CANCEL HIM! Sell me your ticket! Sell me you 9/12 pit and 10/31 harryween ticket NOW.”

Another wrote, “Lived long enough to witness Harry Styles 9/11 merch.”

A third user commented, “The ticket prices are already wild, but the alleged 9/11 imagery this close to the 25th anniversary makes the backlash understandable. Some choices simply need more sensitivity.”

Yet another social media user remarked, “He’s British, so that means he’s lost his brain along with the rest of the UK.”
