Give Us Fair Livelihood : Sangeetha Demands Vijay In New Divorce Plea
New Delhi : A fresh petition from actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has surfaced, amid their ongoing divorce proceedings. In the filing, Sangeetha – a United Kingdom citizen who states she does not have a residence of her own in India – has sought the right to stay in their matrimonial home or be provided alternative accommodation. The petition also asks for the “payment of fair and reasonable permanent alimony”.
According to the petition, “Vijay made it clear that she would not be permitted to reside in the matrimonial home if she chose to approach the court for legal separation.” Sangeetha has therefore moved the court seeking interim relief to ensure she is not left without accommodation during the legal proceedings. The petition came to light after Vijay attended a wedding reception with actor Trisha Krishnan, hosted for the son of film producer Kalpathi Suresh and Meenakshi.
Sangeetha has asked the court to allow her to continue living in their matrimonial home until Vijay “provides equivalent alternative accommodation befitting his status”. The petition argues that as she currently does not have a residence of her own in India, denying her accommodation could leave her without a place to stay while the case is pending. Apart from residential rights, the petition also includes a request for the “payment of fair and reasonable permanent alimony” as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
Sangeetha filed a petition seeking divorce from Vijay after 26 years of marriage. The couple, who got married in August 1999, have two children – Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha. Her petition alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with a female actor. According to the filing, Sangeetha discovered the alleged relationship in 2021.
The petition said that despite Vijay assuring her that the relationship would end, it allegedly continued. The document also alleged that Vijay travelled abroad and attended public events with the said actor, while photographs of the outings were shared on social media. Sangeetha claimed that these posts caused humiliation to her and their children.
