Parts Of Gujarat Continue To Record Unseasonal Rain, Check Out IMD’s Forecast For Today

Ahmedabad: Most parts of Gujarat have been reeling under unseasonal rainfall, disrupting daily life and raising serious concerns among farmers. Over the past several days, districts across North Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, and Dang region have witnessed unexpected showers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain for most regions of the state again today. Coastal areas are expected to experience high humidity levels, and fishermen have been warned to avoid venturing into the sea due to unsafe weather conditions.

The IMD has predicted scattered rainfall accompanied by strong winds (20–30 km/h) in several districts, including Junagadh, Rajkot, Amreli, Surendranagar, Morbi, Dang, Tapi, Narmada, Valsad, Navsari, Ahmedabad, and Gandhinagar. The forecast also warns of rising temperatures and discomfort due to humidity.

According to the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Gandhinagar, eight districts saw unseasonal rainfall on Sunday, May 11. These included Aravalli, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Dang, Porbandar, and Amreli. Between 6 AM and 6 PM, rain was recorded in 19 talukas, with six receiving more than one inch of rain on Sunday. The heaviest rainfall was reported in Kalyanpur taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka, which recorded 2.83 inches in just half a day.

The sudden rains have come as a blow to farmers. Waterlogging in fields has caused significant damage to standing summer crops, sparking fears of economic losses in already vulnerable rural areas. Many farmers now face the daunting task of salvaging what remains of their produce. As the state continues to grapple with weather uncertainties, authorities are urging caution, especially in rural and coastal zones.
