Japan’s Asian Games Come To An End; Torch Handed Over To Qatar For 2030 Games

Shooter Neeru Named India’s Flag-Bearer; India Finishes Fourth with 85 Medals

Nagoya: The 20th Asian Games, which began on September 19, concluded on Sunday with a spectacular closing ceremony, where India’s medal-winning shooter Neeru Dhanda was the country’s flag-bearer. The 21st Asian Games will be held in Doha, Qatar, in 2030. Notably, Doha successfully hosted the 2022 FIFA Football World Cup. Qatar, along with India and Türkiye, has also expressed its interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games.

Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, officially declared the Asian Games in Japan closed. Neeru Dhanda proudly took part in the parade carrying the Indian tricolour after winning two gold medals and one silver medal in shooting.

During Sunday’s closing ceremony, which was held under the theme ‘One Asia’, officials of the Japan Asian Games handed over the Games torch to representatives from Qatar. Thousands of athletes, officials and spectators attended the ceremony.

India finished fourth, just as it did at the 2022 Asian Games. India won a total of 85 medals, comprising 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. China topped the medal tally with 341 medals, including 169 gold, followed by Japan with 269 medals, including 83 gold, while South Korea finished third with 150 medals, including 39 gold.
