From India To A US University: Couple’s $20 Million Gift Makes AI College Their Legacy

Texas: An Indian origin couple who built their careers in the United States has donated $20 million to the University of North Texas (UNT) and the university is naming a new college after them.
The university will establish the Anuradha and Vikas Sinha College of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics in recognition of the couple’s contribution. The new college will focus on fields that are rapidly shaping the future, including artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, advanced analytics, health informatics and learning technologies.
The donation is expected to have a lasting impact on students and researchers. It will fund six permanent endowments covering scholarships, faculty positions, college leadership, entrepreneurship and incubation, research and emerging technologies.
The university also plans to strengthen work through its Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Institute, which will bring researchers from different disciplines together and encourage partnerships with industry.
For the Sinhas, the donation carries a personal meaning. Both Anuradha and Vikas Sinha came to the US from India after completing bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering at Sri Venkateswara University. They went on to pursue higher education in the US, with Vikas eventually returning to UNT to complete his PhD in information science, with a concentration in data science, in 2023.
Vikas Sinha is now a vice president at Broadcom, where he leads its Mainframe Software Division. He has also been involved with UNT’s College of Information Leadership Board since 2023.
Their latest gift is part of a relationship with UNT that has been growing for several years. In 2024, the couple helped establish the Anuradha and Vikas Sinha Department of Data Science. In 2025, they supported the creation of the Sinha Innovation Lab for Data Science, which officially opened in May 2026.
Their earlier contributions to UNT’s College of Information have already crossed $5 million.
The university says the new college will help prepare students for a job market being transformed by AI while supporting UNT’s broader Look North UNT 2030 strategy.
The college’s formal naming celebration is expected later this year. For the Sinhas, the $20 million gift is not simply a donation. It is a way of giving back to education the same education that helped take them from India to successful careers in America.
