FIR Filed Against Anurag Kashyap in Jaipur over Controversial Remark on Brahmin

Jaipur: An FIR has been lodged against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap at the Bajaj Nagar police station in Jaipur following a controversial comment he made about the Brahmin community on social media, police confirmed on Sunday.

The complaint, filed on Saturday night by Anil Chaturvedi, a resident of Barkat Nagar, accuses Kashyap of using offensive language directed at Brahmins in response to a social media user.

Bajaj Nagar Sub-Inspector Ram Kripal stated that the filmmaker’s comment, which surfaced amid backlash over his upcoming film Phule, sparked the complaint. The movie, centered on social reformers Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule, has drawn criticism for its depiction of caste-related issues.

Kashyap reportedly made the remark while addressing criticism surrounding the film. Following intense trolling and online outrage, he issued a public apology via Instagram on Saturday.

“This is my apology not for my post, but for the one line taken out of context and the resulting hate,” Kashyap wrote. “No opinion or comment is worth the rape and death threats being sent to my family, friends, and colleagues by so-called custodians of culture. Abuse me all you want, but my family has said nothing. If you want an apology, here it is.”

In a separate Instagram story, Kashyap also shared a screenshot of the original comment that triggered the backlash, urging viewers to understand the full context. “Everyone has read the line and is angry. But please check the context before reacting,” he wrote.
