Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been fined ₹12 lakh by the BCCI for maintaining a slow over-rate during their seven-wicket win over Delhi Capitals on Saturday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. “This was the team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate offences,” the IPL said in an official statement.
Despite the penalty, GT chased down a challenging target of 204 with four balls to spare, thanks to Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 97, scored while battling cramps in the Ahmedabad heat. The win marked Gujarat Titans’ first-ever successful chase of a 200-plus total in IPL history and the first time any team has done so against Delhi Capitals.
Notably, Gill isn’t the only captain penalized this season. DC’s Axar Patel, MI’s Hardik Pandya, RR’s Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson, and LSG’s Rishabh Pant have also been fined for over-rate violations. With this victory, Gujarat Titans climbed to the top of the IPL 2025 points table with 10 points from seven matches. They next face defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Monday.
