Abhijeet Dipke, the founder and convenor of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), threatened to escalate the situation on Friday, threatening to sit on a dharna in Jaipur if action isn’t taken within 48 hours. When CJP activists, including Ashutosh Ranka, the group’s co-convenor, attempted to visit a school in the Jaipur district earlier in the day, locals confronted them. “I will go to Jaipur if the school repair work doesn’t begin and the BJP goons are not arrested within the next 48 hours,” Dipke stated in a video message. If the requests weren’t fulfilled, he asked others to join in.
On August 15, the CJP began its “School Thik Karo” (repair the schools) campaign. Since then, its members have visited schools to draw attention to the lack of facilities.
Dozens of CJP activists and CJP co-convenor Ranka attempted to visit a primary school in the Jaipur district’s Rampura-Kanwarpura area earlier on Friday. Locals confronted them and made them back. “These are not the villagers from there, but goons summoned by the BJP,” Ranka wrote on X following the altercation.
In the video message, Dipke further claimed that “BJP goons attacked and beat up Ashu [Ashutosh Ranka] and his team.” He claimed that Ranka would “expose” the fact that kids were being taught in a buffalo shed.
“So, I want to say that if work to repair that school is not started within 48 hours, and those goons are not arrested, I will personally come to Jaipur and sit in front of the school until work to repair it begins,” Dipke added. The capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur, appears to have been selected by the CJP as the location of their next major demonstration. “I also ask of all of you. You all come to Jaipur if they don’t listen to us. We won’t give up and we’ll sit in Jaipur the same way we did at Jantar Mantar,” Dipke declared.
Additionally, the CJP convenor called for the withdrawal of a circular that forbade anyone from taking pictures or films of schools that had been harmed. “Everyone who doesn’t want our children to study in cow shelters should come to Jaipur if the work doesn’t start in the next 48 hours,” Ranka wrote after sharing Dipke’s video message on X.
The CJP, which started off as an online satire, began its protest on June 6 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and didn’t stop till the Union Education Minister resigned on July 25 due to the NEET-UG paper leak scandal. The state of the schools has now been brought up by the CJP, and it appears that Jaipur may be the next city to experience an intensified protest.
